We’ve all seen the spy shots Now, Fizik’s entire new range of helmets has been unveiled. This collection features more than just the single shell model you've witnessed competing in cross-country races; it introduces four new designs covering everything from triathlons to off-road adventures. Designed with minimal weight in mind, these helmets offer enhanced aerodynamics tailored for various types of cycling activities. They also boast highly customizable fit options and incorporate advanced impact protection technology thanks to their integrated MIPS Air Node system internally, along with an attachable rear light included on three models intended for regular use.
Fizik introduces four entirely new helmet designs for road, gravel, and mountain biking.
Most known for their shoes and saddles , Fizik broadens their head-to-toe approach by launching four new high-performance cycling helmets. These were anticipated shortly afterward. We saw the Orbea Factory XC team. Racing with what we later learned was the new Kudu. However, at that time, we were unaware that the Italian brand would make such an immediate impact with such a broad lineup all at once.
What’s new?
What you get are:
- Kunée – a comprehensive tear-shaped aerodynamic helmet designed for time trials and triathlon competitions
- Kudo Aero – an entirely enclosed aerodynamic road helmet that maintains only minimal ventilation.
- The Kudo is a lightweight, adaptable helmet designed for various cycling disciplines including road biking, gravel riding, and mountain biking, featuring excellent ventilation.
- Kassis - a more conventional mountain biking helmet featuring extra coverage along with a visor designed for versatile trail riding.
Although the helmets span a wide range, they generally possess many of the same technological features.
( Mainly using the Kassis, Kudo & Kudo Aero, since the Kunée pretty much follows its own TT style. )
Aero indicates reduced drag and improved airflow.
Much of this advancement stems from aerodynamic optimizations, though not solely for reducing air resistance. According to Fizik, significant strides in computational fluid dynamics have enabled them to model airflow across and around their entirely new helmet designs. This has also helped improve the optimal ventilation within these new models.
This results in a refined and distinctive ventilation system featuring elongated horizontal vents positioned just above your eyebrows. Many other helmets incorporate small frontal openings for airflow. However, what sets Fizik helmets apart is their approach to directing air straight across the forehead, effectively dividing the primary front interior cushioning into two sections to enhance cooling at the top of your head.
Could this be suitable for all head sizes?
A distinctive feature found in the latest Fizik helmets is their Custom Crown Adjustment. Many cyclists are aware that certain helmet brands may suit different head shapes better—whether they're more rounded or oval-shaped. To address this, Fizik utilizes a widely recognized 360-degree plastic adjustment mechanism paired with a dial at the rear for size adjustments ranging from 52 to 61 centimeters.
However, they elevate it by incorporating small red pins that connect the retention loop to the helmet shell. If you have a smaller head and prefer a snugger fit, use the default Position 1 pin. This setting will tighten the loop around your head when adjusting the fit. For those with more rounded heads who require additional space, Position 2 keeps the loop slightly farther out, providing better comfort. Alternatively, Position 3 anchors the loop right at the edge of the helmet shell, enhancing wearability for individuals with broader skulls. Personally, I find Option 2 offers the most comfortable adjustment.
Additionally, you can adjust the rear occipital cradle in 4 different vertical positions as well.
Security Features of MIPS Air Node
Mandatory industry safety standards only set the baseline. However, these three standard Fizik cycling helmets incorporate the MIPS Air Node technology for extra security during impacts that aren't straightforward. The Air Node represents the most unobtrusive version of MIPS—without an internal yellow plastic lining. It may go unnoticed except for the small yellow spot visible from the exterior. By integrating this system with traditional MIPS sliding layers within their cushioning, these helmets maintain excellent airflow without sacrificing performance; thus, allowing the outer shell to shift separately from the wearer’s skull during angled collisions, thereby reducing harmful twisting motions before they reach your brain.
Enhancing daily safety incrementally, every Kassis, Kudo & Kudo Aero helmet comes with an integrated snap-in tail lamp designed to fit snugly and sturdily, enhancing conspicuity when commuting. Additionally, a standard snap-in reflector along with a straightforward cover plate is provided.
The compact 35-lumen taillight can be charged via USB-C without needing a separate cable. It offers two straightforward settings: constant illumination for up to 1.5 hours or blinking mode for up to 3 hours of operation. The device sells individually for $30/30€, yet currently only integrates with these three helmet models where it comes as part of the package.
